TitleEmergent Behavior in Gambling Markets Reveals Golden Section Scaling
AuthorsCameron L. Jones
CategoryMathematics
AbstractRacetrack gambling is an example of a complex feedback system between the expectation of winning and the probability of losing. This paper examines one aspect of the economic process of gambling, by looking at how humans choose to wager money on the outcome of three different race types: thoroughbred, harness, and greyhounds. A relationship called the Golden section (1:1.618) can then be used to model the division between the amount bet to Win or Place. This information is provided by the Totaliser and is available online, and therefore represents the set of discrete decision events that contribute towards the market. The results show that for races involving a human element (a human rider) for thoroughbred and harness races, the public select to divide wagers into win and place ratios reflecting emergent global decision-making towards Golden section scaling.

TitleIdentification of potato cells plasma membrane receptors to ring rot pathogen extracellular polysaccharides
AuthorsLidiya A. Lomovatskaya, Anatoly S. Romanenko, Nadia V. Krivolapova
CategoryChemistry
AbstractExtracellular polysaccharides /EPS/ produced by bacterial phytopathogens are known to take part in triggering or suppressing plant defense reactions. However, the functions of these compounds synthesized by ring rot pathogen - bacteria Clavibacter miсhiganensis subsp. sepedonicus /Cms/, are obviously studied insufficiently. In this work the EPS Cms sorbtion on protoplasts isolated from mesophyll cells of two potato cultivars with contrasting resistance to this pathogen was studied. EPS were conjugated with a fluorescent label - rhodamine isothiocyanate.

TitlePrognozing the technical systems status by using the Karlin's polinoms
AuthorsNikolai Petrov;Nikolai Nikolov
CategoryElectronics, Electrotechnics
AbstractThe methods for prognosing the technical status (TS) in this number the optimal filters, are build on the base of classical procedures for analyzing and data processing, demanding the knowledge of the fully expectable characteristics of the measuring mistakes and the prognosible process.

TitleRhetoric as a connection of text - and hypertext system. The ancient rhetoric model and its use for a theory of online-liter
AuthorsFee-Alexandra Haase
CategoryIT and Computing
AbstractThe word rhetoric is a derivation from the Greek expression which meant a scientific discipline and theory for talk. So rhetoric in this early meaning in ancient literature is an art with theoretical background of practical speech (rhetorica utens et docens) and several rules. Basis for s speech is the materia which can be structured as words (verba) of a speech to illustrate things (res).

TitleSmoking and its Poisons
AuthorsAllan Britton
CategoryChemistry
AbstractHealth risks related to exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) are well established. The revised WHO Air quality guidelines for Europe conclude: “ETS has been found to be carcinogenic in humans and to produce a substantial amount of morbidity and mortality from other serious health effects.... Acute and chronic respiratory health effects on children have been demonstrated in homes with smokers ... and even in homes with occasional smoking … there is no evidence for a safe exposure level.”

TitleUnified model of weights for the selection of informative factors
AuthorsDavid Kisets
CategoryMathematics
AbstractThe paper discusses the linear, concave and convex diagrams of weights as mathematical models of relative significances in a system of independent quality factors, representing in terms of probability law the complete group of events. On the basis of proposed criteria the paper compares the diagrams and proves that the linear diagram may successfully serve as unified diagram of weights that enables the extensive application of the principle of information cyclicity as the instrument of optimization.
