| Title | A Novel Pole-Placement Controller Design for a Robot |
| Authors | I.Hassanzadeh and S.Mobayen |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | This research presents a pole-placement method for designing of a feedback controller for a robot. The idea of proposed method is derived from the fact that the internal signals of a feedback control system can be eliminated by executing row operations. The design method can be implemented easily and insightfully on Diophantine equations after choosing proper closed-loop poles. In this paper, a 5-bar-linkage manipulator is considered as a case study and the controller has been designed based on the governing Euler-Lagrange equations on the robot. The superior features of this method are its simplicity and flexibility to apply on various control systems. |

| Title | Knowledge Representation in Personalized Elearning |
| Authors | H. Srimathi, Dr. S.K. Srivatsa |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | Adaptation is so natural, on the fly for teaching by humans, but it is a challenging issue of distance education. E-learners can experience the best learning when the web based material provides interactive communication; and information presented in a different ways with the control over learning. Knowledge about a user inferred from user interactions with the Elearning systems is used to adapt offered learning resources and guide a learner through them. Reasoning on the knowledge can be applied to adapt access, presentation, and navigation in the information resources. Semantic web technologies allow to link information of learning objects thus moving from document centric idea of current web to more fine grained semantic structures. The study is made on the derived Instructional Design Template for further incorporation with the SCORM model which has shifted the course delivery from simple presentation to learning objects. The knowledge items (learning objects) are linked to commonly agreed ontology. This enables construction of a user-specific course, by semantic querying for topics of interest. The paper highlights the work carried on designing architecture of Elearning portal with the personalization using ontology. |

| Title | Measuring Quality Attributes of Web-based Applications Part-I: Assessment and Design |
| Authors | Sanjeev Dhawan, Rakesh Kumar |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | This paper has been designed to predict the Web metrics for evaluating the reliability and maintainability of hyperdocuments. In the age of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Web and the Internet, have brought significant changes in Information Technology (IT) and their related scenarios. Therefore in this paper an attempt has been made to trace out the Web-based measurements towards the creation of efficient Web centric applications. The dramatic increase in Web site development and their relative usage has led to the need for predicting Web-based metrics. These metrics will accurately assess the effort in a Web-based application. Here we carried out an empirical study with the students of an advanced university class and Web designers that use various client-server based Web technologies to design Web-based applications for predicting the hypermedia design model. Our first goal was to compare the relative importance of each design activity. Second, we tried to assess the accuracy of a priori design effort predictions and the influence of some factors on the effort needed for each design activity. Third, we also studied the quality of the designs obtained based on construction of a User Behavior Model Graph (UBMH) to capture the dynamics involved in user behavior, which is discussed in part-II of this paper. The results obtained from the assessment can help us to systematically identify the effort assessment and failure points in Web systems and makes the evaluation of reliability of these systems simple. The theoretical aspects and designing have been described in part-I. Part-II describes the variation of the effort estimation with the help of analysis and implementation models of Web-based applications. |

| Abstract | The both review and design of the effort assessment has been discussed in part-I of this paper. This paper (part-II) explores the variation of the effort estimation with the help of analysis and implementation of Web-based applications using the effort assessment of part-I of this paper. Here we promote a simple, but efficient approach to estimate the effort needed for designing Web-based applications with the help of RS Web Application Effort Assessment (RSWAEA) model as discussed in part-I of this paper. This proposed RSWAEA model has been designed after carrying out an empirical study with the students of an advanced university class and web designers that used various client-server based Web technologies. Our first aim was to compare the relative importance of each Web-based design model. Second, we also studied the quality of the designs obtained based on construction of a User Behavior Model Graph (UBMH) to capture the reliability of Web-based applications. The results obtained from the above assessments can help us to analytically identify the effort assessment and failure points in Web systems and makes the evaluation of reliability of these systems simple. |

| Title | PERFORMANCE MEASURE OF LOCAL OPERATORS IN
FINGERPRINT DETECTION |
| Authors | V.VIJAYA KUMARI, AMIETE, N.SURIYANARAYANAN |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | Digital image processing encompasses processes whose inputs and outputs are images that extract attributes from images. This paper, ’Performance measure of local operators in fingerprint detection’ aims at detecting the edges of fingerprint images. This method uses five local operators namely Sobel, Roberts, Prewitt, Canny and LoG. The edge
detected image is further segmented to extract individual segments from the image. Performance measure of the local operators is obtained by calculating the peak signal to noise ratio by adding various external noise. The performances of the local operators for different types of noise are compared and the best operator suited for those noises is obtained. This can be used as a pre-processing for pattern recognition (Fingerprint
Recognition) where the edge segmented fingerprint images are required for a comprehensive database for storing the identities of citizens, employees, medical applications etc |

| Title | QUANTUM FRAMEWORK FOR GRAPH ISOMORPHISM PROBLEM |
| Authors | Vidya Raj C. and M. S. Shivakumar |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | The graph isomorphism problem is about deciding whether two graphs are actually the same even if they look different in their graphical or adjacency matrix representation. The problem has important applications, especially in the field of computer science, chemistry and bio-informatics. Moreover, the problem of graph isomorphism has remarkable properties in terms of its complexity, it is not known to be in class P, and also not known to be class NP-complete. These properties make the problem a perfect candidate for the development of a new efficient quantum algorithm. In this direction, we have put some efforts into investigating this question. This paper gives an overview and importance of graph isomorphism problem, discusses the complexity properties and the essentials for quantum computations such as quantum parallelism and superposition, quantum Fourier Transforms, Fourier sampling. An insight into two important approaches for the quantum computations; the Hidden subgroup approach and hidden shift approach have been discussed. However, more emphasis has been on graph isomorphism and its relation to Hidden subgroup problems. In all, we have given a quantum framework for graph isomorphism problem. |

| Abstract | This paper presents an hardware and software tool for testing of the electrical and communication parameters of monitoring device units, purposed for working on the board of Russian segment of International Space Station (ISS). These devices, incorporated in project “Obstanovka”, will make measurements of the electromagnetic fields and plasma-wave processes occurring in the ISS near-surface zone (NSZ). The tool integrates hardware and software components for testing of the functionality of the Bulgarian devices DP (designed in SRI-BAS) and LP (designed in STIL-BAS), included into the project |
