| Title | A NUMERICAL APPROACH ON LOAD SHARING ANALYSIS AND OPTIMIZATION OF BOLTED JOINT EFFICIENCY |
| Authors | G.S.Shivashankar,S.Vijayarangan |
| Category | Physics, Astronomy |
| Abstract | The major design issue remains in progressing from the “coupon” strengths measured in these tests to bolted joints in different applications. A numerical method is used for the approximate determination of a multiple “bolted” joints loaded in tension and C code is developed for the same. Comparing with experimental results show that the method can be used as a first approximation for design purposes. In this failure analysis shearing effect, bending effect and bearing effect were considered. Effects of width/diameter ratio (w/d) and edge/diameter ratio (e/d) on failure load were estimated numerically and experimentally on A and C type joints of glass-fiber/epoxy composite laminates. The different stages of an analysis from plain hole to multi-row bolted joints consisting of ... |

| Title | TEMPERATURE IMPACT ON THE DEFORMATION OF ROOTS HAIRS with Rhizobium - INOCULATED PEA (Pisum sativum L.) SEEDLINGS |
| Authors | Lyudmila E. Makarova, Vadim N. Nurminsky |
| Category | Chemistry |
| Abstract | Using light microscopy methods we monitored the response of root hairs (deformations) in pea (Pisum sativum L.) seedlings grown at 22 and 8 ?Ń, 24 hours after inoculation by the bacteria Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viceae. There were noticed differences between the roots grown at different temperatures – they manifested different deformation degree (twists, bends, etc.). It was suggested that inhibition of pea roots infection by nodular bacteria at lower temperature was caused by the slowed down of growth of both the root itself and root hairs, as well as decelerated increase of root hairs zones. |

| Title | BOUNDARY MAPPING OF CHROMOSOME IMAGES USING
GRADIENT VECTOR FLOW ACTIVE CONTOURS AND INVESTIGATIONS |
| Authors | A.Prabhu Britto & Dr.G.Ravindran |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | In this paper it is proposed to identify and investigate optimality of a suitable boundary mapping technique for Chromosome images. This work is expected to yield a robust technique which can be used to boundary map chromosome images from chromosome spread images, having variability in shape and size. Weak edges are also manifested here. Gradient Vector Flow field Active Contours are studied and found to have good convergence properties. Boundary mapping using Gradient Vector Flow Active Contours is done on chromosome spread images. It is found that a unique set of parameter values for the technique is required for boundary mapping every chromosome image. Characterization studies have shown that an optimal range of values exists for each parameter within which good boundary mapping results can be obtained for various chromosomes in similar class of images. Statistical testing validates that the experimental results are significant. |

| Title | DYNAMIC CLASS BASED POWER CONTROL FOR MEDIA STREAMING IN CDMA |
| Authors | Mariappan.V, Narayanasamy.P |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | The objective of this paper is to establish the relationship between Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and the transmission power using dynamic class based power control method. In CDMA system, multiple users share the same bandwidth and they are separated by pseudo random codes; consequently each user is interfered with each other. Hence the need for power control is self-evident. This paper explores the relationship between QoS requirements and the transmission power using dynamic class based power control method. This method is implemented in Matlab using simulink and CDMA reference block set. The result shows that there is a significant performance improvement in terms of data users, coverage capacity and outage probabilities compared to the existing power control mechanism. |

| Title | DYNAMIC SOURCE ROUTING PROTOCOL USING FUZZY LOGIC CONCEPTS
FOR AD HOC NETWORKS |
| Authors | C. Venkatesh , N. Yadaiah and A.M. Natarajan |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | This paper presents a Dynamic Source Routing Protocol using Self Healing and Optimizing Routing Technique based on fuzzy logic concepts. The paths generated by conventional dynamical source routing protocol deviate far from the optimal paths because of the lack of knowledge about the global topology and the mobility of nodes. Routing optimality affects the network performance, especially when the load is high. Longer route consumes more bandwidth, power and is more prone to disconnections.
Self Healing and Optimizing Routing Technique (SHORT) is a technique that monitors the route and tries to shorten it, if a short-cut is available. The proposed fuzzy logic method is evaluated and compared with conventional method using GloMoSim. |

| Title | GENETIC ALGORITHM APPLIED TO OPTIMAL LOCATION OF FACTS DEVICE IN A POWER SYSTEM NETWORK CONSIDERING ECONOMIC SAVING COST. |
| Authors | J. Baskaran, Dr. V. Palanisamy |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | The introduction of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) in a power system improves the stability, reduces the losses, reduces the cost of generation and also improves the loadability of the system. In the proposed work, a non-traditional optimization technique, genetic algorithm is used to optimize the various process parameters involved in introduction of FACTS devices in a power system. The various parameters taken into consideration were the location of the device, their type, and their rated value of the devices. The simulation was performed on a 30-bus power system with various types of FACTS controllers, modeled for steady state studies. The optimization results clearly indicate that introduction of FACTS devices in a right location increases the loadability of the system and genetic algorithm can be effectively used for this kind of optimization |

| Title | INTELLIGENT UNIVERSAL SENSOR INTERFACE DEVELOPMENT USING MICROCONTROLLER |
| Authors | A.V. Mancharkar And S.H.Behere |
| Category | Electronics, Electrotechnics |
| Abstract | Intelligent sensor interface is a rapidly expanding area of research, which will inevitably bring extraordinary changes in the current real life problems. It is implemented with a number of high-performance front-end circuits for various types of sensors. Sensing elements can be directly connected without the need for extra circuits. The commercially available sensor interface allows a limited 4 to 5 sensors at input and only 2 or 3 types of outputs. The present paper describes development and typical features of a low-cost, high-performance interface.
The interface is divided into two parts a base unit and a sensor specific plug-in module. The base unit allows only one module to be plugged in. Each module consists of a signal conditioner for a specific sensor and the user has to adjust the DIPswitches present on the module to indicate the type of sensor and range of measurement. The base unit consists of microcontroller (for monitoring and control) and other circuits. The microcontroller software identifies the connected sensor type, measurement range and sets amplifier gains accordingly to provide a fixed range of voltage 0-5V. The base unit converts this voltage into fixed 4-20 mA current and parallel 12 bit digital data. The microcontroller sends this digital data to a host PC using RS 232C interface for further processing. The interface provides connection of 8 different types of sensors and provides four types of outputs. These are among the major tasks of an intelligent sensor interface. |

| Authors | Nikolay Ivanov Petrov |
| Category | Electronics, Electrotechnics |
| Abstract | This paper deals with a optimal method concerning nonlinear parameter identification of risk technical systems (automobile and railway transport, aircrafts, marine and river transport, chemical installations, munitions, information society suffering by terrorism). Unknown states of the model are built by sliding observers which converge in a finite time. Thanks to this property, it is possible to derive equations of the model in order to obtain an estimation law which converges to the nominal values of the parameters also in the finite time. |

| Authors | Shobha Rekh, Dr.S.Subha Rani , Dr.A.Shanmugam |
| Category | IT and Computing |
| Abstract | Turbo codes are the channel coding scheme used in wireless cellular networks as they are able to reach nearer to the Shannon limit. The interleaver used in Turbo codes play a major role in the performance of Turbo codes. Hence it is necessary to design Turbo codes with good interleaver structure. In this paper ,we analyse the performance of Turbo codes for varying interleaver structure and sizes in terms of the bit error rate (BER). The size and type of interleaver plays a major role in the performance of turbo codes. We discuss the various types of interleavers used in Turbo codes and find the most optimal interleaver. The turbo codec is simulated for varying interleaver structures. The channel is subjected to Additive White Gaussian Noise in terms of the Signal to noise ratio(Eb/N0) in db.. The performance graph is plotted between the number of decoding iterations and the bit error rate for various interleavers. An analysis is made for the optimal choice in the size and structure of interleaver. |

| Abstract | The influence of exopolysacharides (EPS) produced by ring rot pathogen Clavibańter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus on the concentration dynamics of cŔĚP pool and its derivatives in in vitro potato plants of two cultivars, contrasted by resistance to this pathogen, was studied. Immunoenzyme assay (IEA) with primary rabbit antibodies to cAMP, and secondary goat antibodies binded with peroxidase was used. Incubation of plant roots to EPS resulted in the emergence of three waves of cŔĚP accumulation, which propagated in the direction root-stem and embraced the whole plant. In case of the first, most powerful wave, maximal cŔĚP concentration exceeding the value of this parameter in control by two orders was observed in the upper part of the stem after 1 minute already. Further two less powerful waves emerged after 120 and 480 minutes respectively, with cŔĚP concentration being significantly lower. … |

| Title | STOCHASTIC APPROXIMATION FOR ESTIMATION
OF BIOLOGICAL MODELS |
| Authors | Nikolay Ivanov Petrov |
| Category | Electronics, Electrotechnics |
| Abstract | Stochastic approximation for estimation (SAE) is a class of optimization algorithms which compute an approximation of the gradient and/or the Hessian of the objective function by varying all the elements of the parameter vector simultaneously and therefore, require only a few objective function evaluations to obtain first or second-order information. Consequently, these algorithms are particularly well suited to problems involving a large number of design parameters. In this study, their potentialities are assessed in the context of nonlinear (NN) system identification. To this aim, a challenging modeling application is considered, i.e. dynamic modeling of batch animal cell cultures from sets of experimental data. The performance of the optimization algorithms are discussed in terms of efficiency, accuracy and ease of use. |
